Do you want to understand the Why and the How? As in ”Why do I do this”; and “How did the behaviour or trait come about?”; If so, my background in genetics will help identify the interaction between your nature (DNA) and nurture (what have learned in your environment) in a well-rounded approach. Simply put, your DNA is the blueprint of you and your environment is the building materials you can access to build from those instructions. My goal is to foster an understanding of why you used which material to build each part and therefore learn how to dismantle the no longer necessary structures so that we can focus on building new ones.

I welcome individuals of all cultural backgrounds and the LGBTQ2S+ community. I have experience working with a wide variety of client concerns but have a special interest in treating anxiety and depression. I integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches, with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have also been trained in Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) and I would love for you to meet my co-therapist, Hagrid (my Labradoodle). I have completed additional training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT) and play therapy-based interventions.

Hi, my name is Samantha, but you can call me Sam!
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist who is a member in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), and the Psychologists Association of Alberta (PAA).
I enjoy working with individuals of all cultural and religious backgrounds along with those within the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I am particularly interested in working alongside those who struggle with ADHD, depression, and anxiety-related issues as well as athletes seeking to improve their performance. I believe that working with clients to create an environment that helps foster growth, insight, and healing is important to help create meaningful change for clients. I look forward to working with you!
My goal with clients is to build a strong alliance with clients to better understand current problems to encourage positive life changes. I use an eclectic approach with a strong emphasis on CBT and mindfulness but I know CBT is not everyones vibe so feedback from clients is always appreciated so that we can explore other therapeutic modalities together!
Coming to therapy is always the hardest step. It takes a lot of courage to talk to someone about things that you might not normally talk about because its uncomfortable and scary. I hope that in meeting and working together, we are able to get to a place where it feels like you’re coming in for a cup of coffee and catch up on life!

Welcome/Bienvenue, I’m so glad you’re here!
I provide support for adults facing a variety of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, attachment injuries, loss, and grief (including the loss of a loved one, the end of a romantic relationship, the end of a friendship, etc.), emotional regulation, and suicidal ideation.
I work from a person-centered and holistic approach to address my client’s emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy while integrating components from Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am also bilingual and am excited to offer in-person and virtual sessions in both French and English.
I value client empowerment and invite you into the treatment planning process to best meet your needs and goals. This is your journey!
With a genuine and empathetic spirit, I am passionate about ensuring a safe and secure space where anyone can feel comfortable expressing any emotion, thought, or struggle. I welcome all stories, backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and those who value vulnerability and self-discovery.
Canine-Assisted and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
I am so excited to connect you with my animals and together we will work toward your mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Currently, I offer equine-assisted psychotherapy at the Riverfront Equestrian Centre.
About me: I grew up on an acreage in southern Manitoba. Animals hold a special place in my heart and have always been a big part of my life. Growing up over the years, I had fish, hamsters, a guinea pig, a bunny, four birds, cats, and many dogs. I wholeheartedly believe in the healing power of animals, and this is why I pursued training in Animal and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy!
Why AAT & EAT? There’s no denying the benefits of psychotherapy, however, traditional talk therapy can be difficult for some clients. The unique practice of Animal and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy involves the intentional inclusion of an animal to help you meet your individual needs and therapeutic goals. For example, if you’re feeling anxious, engaging with the therapy animal through talking and petting may help to reduce anxiety and create a sense of connectedness. In addition, therapy animals can help build a strong therapeutic relationship, make sessions more engaging, and may be tailored to suit culturally diverse clients!

I am honored when others share their most vulnerable moments and experiences with me and treat these disclosures with the respect and dignity they deserve. In working with me, you will be met with acceptance, warmth, and kindness. My goal is to create a welcoming and safe space for you where you can feel seen, heard, and deeply understood. I truly believe that many of the struggles we face involve multifaceted layers of loss that often go unrecognized. I seek to gently guide my clients to process these losses and to develop a safer space within their minds to exist, without the intrusion of self-critical and shame-based beliefs. It may be that the ways in which your mind and body are fueling efforts to protect you, may no longer be serving you in some ways. Together, we can explore how this may be occurring for you and discuss meaningful ways of creating a noticeable shift within. As a somatic, compassion-focused therapist, I have experience in supporting a variety of mental health concerns and I am well-versed in the treatment of trauma in areas such as sexual violence, domestic violence, grief and loss, and childhood trauma. I have gained this experience through various organizations such as The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton and the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre–supporting those in my community through disclosures of abuse and navigating the judicial system. I tailor my treatment plans to the unique presenting concerns of my clients, integrating somatic modalities such as Hakomi and EMDR, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems, and Attachment-based therapy. I work foundationally from a social justice, anti-oppressive, and intersectional lens and welcome those of all faiths, communities, and cultural backgrounds.

Hello there!
At thirteen, I was referred to a Psychologist for test anxiety. From that point forward, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology Degree from Concordia University of Edmonton, followed by a Master of Arts in Counselling degree from Yorkville University, I was officially ready to transition into my role as a therapist. Now I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist committed to the well-being of all my clients. Having worked with various clients, and having dealt with each of their unique circumstances, I have found my true passion in guiding them to discover the answers they seek.
As a therapist, I am known to be direct, motivating, eclectic, and fun. My goal is to make this process less nerve-wracking and more relaxed - - like you’re having coffee with a friend, while maintaining an ethically sound practice that propels you towards your therapeutic goals. I believe that people can heal, connect, grow, and live a fulfilling life. I aim to walk alongside you on that journey to help you nurture the best version of yourself. Creating a collaborative therapeutic relationship with my clients is my top priority, as I view it as the foundation for growth. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, and empathic space for all of my clients.
I provide counselling to children (5 -12), adolescents (13-18) & adults in various areas including, but not limited to, Anxiety, Depression, Emotion Dysregulation, Life transitions, Burnout, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Peer Relationships, Self-esteem Challenges, Bullying, Behavioural Challenges, Stress, Divorce/Separation for children and youth, Blended Families, and Trauma.
My early experience working in Mental health in various capacities was predominantly in the realm of forensic psychology, addiction and trauma having started my early work experience at Stan Daniels Healing Centre, then transitioning to work at Boyle Street Community Services, and landing at McCullough Centre - an alberta government operated transitional housing program for males facing homelessness and addiction. Initially registering as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) I worked in a clinical setting which allowed me to gain experience working with a plethora of client challenges and goals in a more generalized capacity. I registered as a Registered Provisional Psychologist in February of 2022 and since my practice has shifted to focus predominantly on Children, Youth, and Adults.
I have taken training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy facilitated by Lane Pederson, as well as training in Animal Assisted Therapy, and Working with Parts from an Indigenous Lens facilitated by Shelley PomPana Spear Chief. I have also taken various trainings from the Institute of Child Psychology: Childhood Anxiety - Helping Children Heal, Compassionate Discipline, Highly Sensitive Children, Helping Children through Separation and Divorce, The Impact of Technology, The Making of a Resilient Child, Childhood trauma - Finding a way through, Demystifying Childhood Gender and Sexuality, Trauma Informed Yoga and Breathwork for Kids, Childhood ADHD, Empowering Learners, and Classroom Mental Health.
My approach to counselling is client-centred at the core. I integrate a variety of evidence-based interventions such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Play in Therapy and Art in Therapy. Additionally, I incorporate Animal Assisted Therapy into my practice with my co-therapist, Minnie. I am committed to expanding my therapeutic knowledge and have a strong interest in trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches.
Outside of the counselling room, you will find me immersed in play with my 5-year-old, spending time with friends outdoors, at a spin class, sweating it out at hot yoga, ripping through fashion blogs, or nestled up on the couch near a fire watching some form of reality TV.

Ms. Oana Vonu-Boriceanu
(She/Her/Hers)
Registered Provisional Psychologist (6660p)
Have you wondered why patterns in your relationships seem to repeat? Are you struggling with difficulties in this area of your life and not sure where to start? Or perhaps you are fraught with anxiety, depression, stress, or grief and find it difficult to move forward in a way that feels good to you. By processing and integrating past experiences, family of origin issues, attachment wounds and their associated symptoms can be resolved. These changes can be made while being grounded in the here and now. Your relationships with partners, family, friends, colleagues or bosses can be transformed in a way that may surprise you.
I am skilled in several therapeutic approaches, with my main lens being the psychodynamic (Jungian) perspective. My style supports diving into the deep waters of the unconscious, if you are called to do so. Unconscious material may be uncovered through discussions about metaphors, symbols archetypes, dreams and early life experiences. Our work will explore emotions and feelings, while improving attachment difficulties through the strength of the therapeutic relationship. Powerful transformation is possible when one looks within.
I also offer a trauma focused modality - accelerated resolution therapy (ART), as well as emotionally focused therapy (EFT), solution focused therapy (SFT) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The approach used in our sessions will be tailored to your needs, preferences and goals.
Whether you are seeking profound change or a tune up, I can support you with a variety of symptoms and concerns. My main focus will be to create a safe space for you to share and feel heard, while valuing the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship.
Warmly, Oana | she/her (pronounced ‘Wanna’)
